NEW BRITAIN — a Prospect Street woman was charged with tampering with evidence and possession of narcotics Tuesday after officers found 140 bags of heroin stuffed in her overflowing toilet, police said.Brenda Gonzalez, 24, of 66 Prospect St. was the target of an investigation into heroin sales in the city, Sgt. Jeanette Saccente said. Special Services Unit officers had Gonzalez under surveillance Tuesday when she drove to an area of Hartford known for drug sales and then headed back to her home in new Britain.“when they approached her she ran into her house,” Saccente said. “They found her in a second-floor bathroom trying to flush heroin down the toilet.”Gonzalez apparently clogged the bowl with heroin bags and officers burst in to find the toilet overflowing with about 40 bags of heroin floating in the water, Saccente said.
They reached in and pulled out another 100 bags which were lodged in the plumbing, she said. The drugs were worth about $1,400 on the street.Gonzalez was charged with interfering with police, tampering with evidence, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school or public housing project.Gonzalez was released after posting $100,000 bond after her appearance in new Britain Superior Court Wednesday.
